S.S. Librarianship

a podcast for librarians and the nerds who love them

Hi! We're Alli Sullivan & Sam Mills. We met in a pub the night before our first day of library school, and since then we've been through a lot together - classes, presentations, jobs, weddings, Dungeons & Dragons campaigns - all the while finding ourselves engrossed in wide-ranging conversations about television, film, books, technology, and what it means to be a young, nerdy, lady librarian in the twenty-first century. This podcast is our attempt to share our conversation with you - we hope you enjoy listening, and we hope you'll jump in and join us by sending in a question, comment, or topic for us to discuss on the show!

Episode Fifty - "Oh my god, is this our fiftieth episode?"

This week...

Mind Grapes: We are warming hearts all around. Alli talks about Pride, a lovely British film about a group of gay and lesbian Londoners who helped support a Welsh mining town during the 1980's miners strike. Sam is binge-watching the family dramedy Parenthood - by her account a fairly accurate portrayal of realtionships between adult siblings, their parents, and their children.

Class Z(ed): One of the major duties of the new librarian is to serve many shifts on the reference desk or working in information services. We talk a bit about the differences we have been finding between the public library and the academic, some challenges we weren't prepared for, and why we think information services are vital and often overlooked.
