Pop culture, nerddom, librarianship, life. We occasionally discuss books too!
We're Alli & Sam. We met in a pub the night before our first day of library school, and since then we've been through a lot together - classes, jobs, weddings, D&D campaigns - always finding ourselves engrossed in wide-ranging conversations about television, film, books, technology, and what it means to be a young, nerdy, lady librarian in the 21st century. This podcast is our invitation to you to join our conversation. We hope you'll join us by sending in a question, comment, or topic for us to discuss on the show!
SAM MILLS was born in Toronto, and has also lived in Squamish, London, and Vancouver, where she now makes her home. She's a nerd from waaaay back, having fallen in love with Star Trek, the mother of all fandoms, at the age of 8. But that geekiness grew over time, into a love of science fiction, fantasy, comedy; books, TV, movies, podcasts, and even, lately, video games (despite her lack of hand-eye coordination). She holds degrees in English Literature, Education, and Library Science, and has worked variously as a teacher, bookseller, video store clerk, cashier, research assistant, student librarian, movie theatre usher, and volunteer coordinator. Right now her professional focus is on digital literacy, digital collections, library instruction, and libraries as community hubs.
ALLI SULLIVAN is a librarian and nerd born in Quebec, raised in Arizona, and now chooses Vancouver as a permanent home. Academically, her background is in English Literature (MA from Queens University) and Library Science (MLIS from University of British Columbia). Her library related interests include information literacy instruction, educational technologies, scholarly communication, copyright, data collection and data curation, coding, information architecture, and virtual library services. On the nerd front, Alli is a renaissance nerd - video games, pop culture, technology, science fiction, fantasy - a lot of nerd fingers in a lot of nerd pies. That sounds gross. But I’m not re-writing it.
